For years, COL. Christine Rem (Ret.) and her beloved husband MAJ. Christopher Rem (Ret. and deceased in 2012), dreamed of providing a supportive residence for female veterans in need. In 2007 COL. Christine Rem purchased a house at 515 1st Street in Troy, NY which could be renovated and used for that purpose. After years of effort, in a ceremony on June 19, 2021, the Christopher House project was officially launched and the Rems’ dream became a reality.

In 2010 COL. Christine Rem founded and became Executive Director of the Capital District Women Veterans Program, Inc. (CDWV), a nonprofit organization that provides case management and support services to female veterans in need. She and the Capital District Women Veterans Board Members secured the support of volunteers and several area veterans organizations to raise funds for needed renovations of Christopher House. A complete list of needed household goods, furniture, and other items can be found at www.cdwv.org/.

The Center for Nursing at the Foundation of NYS Nurses, Inc., notes this milestone with the deepest appreciation to MAJ. Christopher Rem and COL. Christine Rem, both of whom have been strong supporters of the Center for Nursing. They initiated and guided a series of program offerings that featured the services, and sacrifices, of military nurses in many settings including conflicts in Vietnam and Iraq. In addition, they donated significant materials from their military service to the Center for Nursing History’s archives. We commend the extraordinary generosity and service of MAJ. Christopher and COL. Christine Rem. Their efforts are truly reflective of nurses and the nursing profession’s essential services to the public.
