History & Endowment

The Board of Directors established the Center for Public Education (CPE) in 1988 in dedication to improving health, health consciousness, and public understanding and utilization of the services of professional nurses.  In 2007, the Center was renamed the “St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Center for Public and Professional Education” in recognition of the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae’s completion of a one million dollar endowment, which serves as a continuation of its distinguished tradition of public service and professional excellence.

The Goals of the CPE are:

  • To address the nursing faculty shortage along with nursing retention and recruitment;
  • To promote public and professional education;
  • To promote the visibility and understanding of the Center for Public and Professional Education within the nursing community and the public at large
