Meenakshi Sivanandam, a sixth-grader from Missouri City, Texas wrote the following research paper for her National History Day 2020 project, themed “Breaking Barriers in History”.

In her free time, Meenakshi enjoys writing short stories, reading, and spending time with her family. She has many future aspirations that she hopes to accomplish, one of which includes advocating for cleaner air in order to make the world a better place for future generations.

“I believe that one change for the better sparks another, and together we can start a rippling chain of dominoes to encourage people in the future to take care of our Earth.”

When she grows up, she wants to become a lawyer, following Nightingale’s principles of equality, to enact justice for all. She is deeply honored and excited to share her research paper with us and cherishes the opportunity to educate others on the significance of Florence Nightingale’s life work.

“I want to truly recognize Florence Nightingale for all of her life’s tireless efforts, dedicated to creating a heathier world, and shaping nursing into the honorable and respectable position that it is today.”
