District 4 of the New York State Nurses Association: Central Counties Professional Nurses Association, 1940-2013

District 4, NYSNA: Central Counties Professional Nurses Association was one of nineteen districts that covers New York State.  This organization spans ninety-four years (1919-2013) with the bulk dates as noted in the title.  Records include administration, professional practice groups, publicity, awards and achievements, dinners, audiovisuals, and artifacts.

Administrative History

District 4 of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA): Central Counties Professional Nurses Association (CCPNA) was founded in 1919, known simply as District 4: NYSNA at the time. [1] Within the first few years after its formation, District 4 Onondaga, Cortland and Cayuga as members. [2] Later, the District 4 of the NYSNA began taking a large approach towards influencing the education and training of nurses. They did this at the 1926 state convention by involving themselves with the founding of the National Committee on Grading of Nurse Training Schools. [3] Sometime later on, District 4 changed its name by adding on “Central Counties Professional Nurses Association,” (CCPNA). [4] They have been involved in several different trends for increasing their activeness, including the giving of rewards to nurses for achieving noteworthy feats in excellence within certain areas of nursing. [5] These include research, practice and teaching. [6] Also, they have increased their involvement with many different communities over the years, doing everything they can to contribute to them. Despite their activeness, they seem to be having trouble with with carrying out their activities. [7] Because of this, it is advised that District 4 must take this up to their District Board. [8]

Scope and Content Note

This collection was created by individuals from the New York State District 4, NYSNA: CCPNA, along with the different organizations that participate with the aforementioned, all having to do with different events and activities that these organizations engaged in.  The different series contain news articles, administrative records, and other materials related to organizations within the district.

This series contains one seal puncher with an example seal, two proclamations, one summit report from the CCPNA, two magnets, one St. Joseph’s Hospital bag and one pen that is commonly used by nurses.
